I am trying to copy my VHS's my PC hard drive using a cheapish video card (no hardware conversion) and it is just about managing MPEG1 or VCD encryption at the lowest resolution. However, as soon as I try anything above 300 X 300 the image is faltering and hesitant. This is a smae because the resolution is worse than Channel 5 on a bad day!

I would have thought my 1.2 Ghz PC was adequate but maybe not.

Has anyone any thoughts on things I could check to see if there is any way of upping the resolution but keeping the image movement smooth? Has anybody been successful with this kind of setup.

Regards
Steve

You didn't give all your system specs (e.g. RAM etc.) so it's hard to say, but my computer runs at 1.5ghz, not much faster than yours, and I do VHS transfers without a problem as long as I leave the computer alone while it's capturing the video. (I use a DVD Xpress capture card with plain old RCA cables hooked up to a VCR or DVD player occasionally if it's a "problem" disc.)

Karen H.--Dell Optiplex GX240, P4 1.50ghz, 256mb RAM (yeah, I need more), Windows XP Pro w/SP1, 80gb c: drive (replaced the 20gb c: that crashed), 126gb i: drive, 124gb j: drive, 500gb external hard drive partitioned into k: and l: drives, Sony DDU1621/C1 DVD-ROM to rip/encode, Sony DRX-530UL to burn, new Sony DRX-840U to burn DL discs ... need a new computer to go with it!!

Interesting that you don't have any problems. Similar spec. 256 Mb. Windows XP Home. 20 Gb drive.

I don't know what the Sony stuff is you mention.

Hmmm.
