yes, 40x or faster (faster better).. just make sure your cd-rom and cd-rw drives are on seperate IDE channels and you won't have a problem burning on the fly, especially since all plextor drives have burn proof technology eliminating buffer underruns.

wow thats weird I have not had any problem with burning on the fly with my cd rom and cdr/rw drives on the same IDE cable? I also have a plextor and I got mine for 79 dollars out here in California,US. I got it at a store called Frys electronics. very good store they have some of the best prices on hardware. By the way vcdjunkie what kind of computer stores do you have out there in Florida?

do you use an 80 pin cable or 40 pin? could be since I use a 40 pin IDE cable it causes this problem.. will have to try with 80 pin cable instead.. as for computer stores, there are many but I usually shop online at http://www.pricewatch.com because there is still no sales tax in the US when shopping online, and shipping costs are usually worth it to get the best prices.. some of the best hardware does come from south miami, there is a row of shops called "computer alley" right by the port of miami, stuff comes right off the boats and direct from places like taiwan, malaysia, all those places where they manufacture electronics cheaply.. sometimes I get my stuff from there, but usually online!

I bought my 48x burner from best buy, it is BUSLINK, but the drive itself is actually a LITE-ON.. seems like nobody manufactures their own hardware anymore.. cost me $59.99 - $20.00 mail in rebate.. I think that is the best deal anywhere right now.. I should have the rebate within 2 months or so ;-)
