Google introduced a modular WiFi router for your home

article published on 5 October, 2016

Google has continued their efforts to take over your home, announcing the Google WiFi home router. The device will start shipping in December and cost $129 - in-line with other mid-to-high range routers, or you can buy a three-pack for $299 if you would like to create a "mesh network." That isn't exactly right...it does have a (by router standards) massive 4GB flash, but it is only rated at 1200mbps. The Linksys EA6400 is much faster, has DD-WRT support, and costs $10 less...and that is just one of many units already on the market that can beat Google WiFi in performance for less money.

It is pretty amazing that they are previewing a ROUTER that won't be available for 2 months, which costs more than better units already in the wild, and their biggest selling point is that they actually expect people to buy three of these when it doesn't even make sense to buy one. If you are pre-ordering for any reason other than to do a review, just go over to Amazon and buy something better right now for less money.

This might be good for senior citizens or non tech people, but I rather stick my Linksys Router. I can't see this product not doing well. It looks nice because it is clean white, small, and LED lights all around, but spec wise I can't see this making impact in the market.
