Hi, I've always used Riteks and up till a few weeks ago was very happy with them. However I'm starting to get a few discs come back on me with the end of the movie skipping/ freezing. I'm really fed up with them doing this and was thinking of changing my supplier and also going over to Verbatim. Any1 used these? Also wondered if they were as compatible with stand alones as the Riteks?

The Verbatim DataLifePlus are the good Mitsubishi made discs. You might also look into Taiyo Yuden, they're outstanding media.

I've used Verbatim Datlife DVD-R's and have had no problems with them. I use them for movies and ps2 backups. I would recommend you try them.

Thanks for the feedback guys! I was just starting to lose faith with the Riteks what with the amount I was getting back cause of the skipping/ freezing toward the end. I think I?ll order 100 Verbatim Datalife DVD-R's tomorrow. They are a little more cost wise but I guess its true, you get what you pay for. I just need consistent reliable performance for stand alone players with my back ups.

you could try shinking the movies down a little more so you don't burn all the way to the edge of the disc.

I don't think its that. I must have done nearly 1000 movie's and only in the past few weeks started having this problem after my supplier changed its Riteks. I think its purely the media so am right this min about to order 50 Verbatim's.

Sly, did u ID your Ritek's? I have been using the Ritek G04's (mfgr ID via DVD Identifier); and these have held up really well. Virtually 100% success using a stand alone SONY (el cheapo model)player. I read on another board that Ritek has switched some of its supplies to Princo, which sux hard(apparently). My last batch of Ritek's was from newegg and it was still G04 (in late July). I may wait before I buy another batch of the Ritek's.

whoever wrote that post is totally wrong. Ritek makes their own dye, there is no reason why they would use any one elses, especially princo's crap.

How much do are those discs that you are using? The ritek and verbatims? I use the TDK brand and they work fine. I got 50 discs at Costco for $25. That was with a coupon.
If those Riteks and verbatims are cheaper...could you guys direct me to where I can buy them? Thanks.

is the Ritek G04 on newegg reliable? I've seen some at super media store and they look like they are in better quality but i don't know because i don't have any experiences with Ritek yet.
is there any at Newegg that sell a good quality Ritek G04 that's about 24 dollars or less because my company pays for office equipments under 25 bucks without having to show the receipt.

yeah, newegg is reliable. As long as it uses the ritek dye, they are all the same no matter what the top looks like. And, yes, they work great for ps2 backups.

You can find a good spread of media at http://dvdr.co.uk They have the occasional bargain and sell the top brands at reasonable prices. Their 4x TDKs are dirt cheap at the mo. Check it out

If anyone was to think of going to dvdr.co.uk I do not recommend buying TDKs at all (as they're known to be problematic as you can find out by researching thru this very DVD-R Media forum).
Instead I would suggest/recommend buying the Verbatim ... a top brand & not expensive.
If you buy very cheap media you may well pay the cost of the disc being problematic after a time (even if all seems well on initial burn).

I've been using the regular Ritek DVD+R 4.7gb discs from Newegg. They've been pretty reliable for me. The only time I got a coaster was when I made a mistake and chose the wrong options on a burn. These DVD's have the silvery top and the purple writing side. I haven't had any problems with them yet other than when I messed with the recording process.
Should I use Verbatim's next or stick with Riteks? Should I start using Ridata?
I'm ordering another 50 pack on the 30th because I've been burning PS2 games like mad!

If it ain't broke don't fix it. I've tried the Verbatim's and the Riteks. I'll only buy Riteks from now on, got way too many verbatim's coming back on me.

Is there any danger of writing on the silvery side to label them? I've been using a regular Sharpie black marker and never had any problems with any of my CD's.
I was thinking of getting the DVD-R discs this time with the white inkjet top. Would that be safer to use with the Sharpie? Or doesn't it matter? Does it matter if I use DVD+R or DVD-R?
