Hello all,

I'm new to all this so be NICE.8-)

I just bought a pioneer a07xlb 8x, very nice, I hade to get some firmware updates to 1.18 but anywho.

I bought matrix 1-8x dvd-rs from shop4techek. Well i'm using dvdxcopy plat. My problem is my dvd rom drives reads the dvd but when I go and write to the matrix -rs some read and some do not. I can burn say 3 and then 2 might not work or I'll burn one fine but it will not work in my dvd player. So I searche this forum and a lot seems to be with the disks, MATRIX ARE CRAP that is what I'm reading anywhy. So I returned them and now Im awaitng the ritek G05 DVD-R 8x from supermedia.com. Well these work better? I dont think that is is my dvd writer becuase I am getting succesfull burns. Please Help don't want to keep spending money on dvd -rs.

thank you.
md

Thanks,
md

I'd say you're on the right track. Using good media is half the battle and Riteks certainly qualify as good media. Just make sure that you're either buying an official Ritek brand (like RiData) or that it says the discs have Grade A dye.

Well it's always possible, but Pioneer is known for making very good burners so it's not likely, especially since you say you updated the firmware. You can always check discs for errors with DVDInfo. You can download it for free from our software section. Just look for the Speed Test button at the top (it says RPM on it). Run the speed test and if there are errors it should tell you.

Since you say some of the discs work it's probably safe to say the process you're using is correct, so it's most likely down to the media.

I don't currently have an 8x burner so the fastest I ever burn is 4x, but I'm also a believer in sticking to a lower speed than the max the burner is capable of. Since you have a good burner and you're getting good media you might want to try comparing the results writing at 4x against an 8x burn. Once you get your Riteks you should burn a couple at 4x and a couple at 8x and then run DVDInfo's speed test on both of them. If the 8x burns read just as fast (and the graph it shows you is just as even) there's no reason you shouldn't get good results from 8x burns. If the graphs for the 8x burns look significantly worse, even though there still shouldn't be any read errors, it might be worth it to stick to 4x.

Keep in mind that for a long time people were burning 4x media at 8x, and as a result I would expect a significant difference, which is exactly what many people have reported. I've seen a lot fewer people comment on how their 8x burns on good 8x media have turned out so it may be a non-issue. In either case, when I upgrade my burner later this year (probably when the Pioneer dual layer burners come down in price) I expect that I'll still keep burning at 4x, but I also expect to keep buying 4x media. If I start buying 8x media I'll run the same tests I described above to find out if there's a point to burning slower.

I have dvdxcopy plat. can you change the burn speed? I thought you had to burn at what ever your media is? I bought 8x. can I change the burn speed in my software?

So you think the 8x dvd's should be ok?

I can't help you with XCopy questions. I've never had any interest in buying or using it. If you can't change the speed you should still be fine burning at 8x as long as you have good media.
