Hi,
Ritek is quality media and should serve you well. I haven't heard many good things about Matrix media and a good indicator that a certain brand of media isn't that good is the "some work, some don't" syndrome.
For what it's worth, I'm still a firm believer in "faster isn't always better". Better compatibility at 4X :)

G05 Ritek 8x should work at 8x with no problem ,but I have to go with Nephilim on this one also slower is better.
But that?s just my opinion you may want to try burning one disk at 4X and one at 8X and see witch one you prefer.

I've so often agreed with Nephilim on this subject and I think that I still do for most people. I think it really depends on the media and the burner. I used to burn at only 4X until Nephilim got me into doing PI/PO (parity inner and outer) tests.
100% of your burns will have PI errors (I average about 9) but minor PI errors are corrected during playback, it?s the PO errors that are a problem.
I?ve been using 4X Ridata (RICOHJPN) which will burn at 8X on my PX-712A and after more than 50 burns I?m still getting 0% PO errors. It takes me less than 8 minutes to burn a DVD.
It could be that because my burner?s top speed is 12X and I?m burning below that, but I will never go back to 4X.

yes they will write perfectly fine at 4x but you probably payed more for the 8x media so you would save yourself some money if you bought 4x.

Thanks, I payed $30 for 25, which is what I pay for the 4x, I guess that's why I didn't notice, they are memorex. One more? Do I need to preset the speed, for 4x instead of "fastest" I use decrypter/shrink or Nero.

Re: RitekG05 DVD-R/8X. Bought 25 from
"http://www.blank-cd-cdr.com/dv4xblme.html"... went through 4DVD discs due to "Burn Process Failed". Using a Plextor 712A... ck'd firmware & recommended media. Ritek is on the list but not "recommended".
After lots of troubleshooting...hours of aggravation I remembered my "DVD Identifier" program. I used it and here's the print out:
-----------------------------------------------------
Unique Disc Identifier : [DVD-R:RITEKG05]
------------------------------------------------------
Disc Type : [DVD-R]
Manufacturer ID : [RITEKG05]
Manufacturer Name : [Ritek Co.]
Disc Application Code : [Unrestricted Use : Consumer Purpose]
Recording Speeds : [1x , 2x , 4x] (8x Cannot Be Detected)
Blank Disc Capacity : [2,298,496 Sectors = 4,489.3MB = 4.38GB (4.71GB)]
------------------------------------------------------DVD Identifier - http://DVD.Identifier.CDfreaks.com] ------------------------------------------------------
For info, the Plextor recommeded brands are: Taiyo Yuden; Maxell; TDK; Mitsubishi (MCC/Verbatim).
I wrote the "Blank CD" re: mislabel. We'll see.....

Keep an eye on the prices at newegg.com they've been selling Ridata DVD+R 4X cakeboxes for $48. That's 48 cents each and the media ID is RICOHJPN, excellent quality. I bought 200 burned 60 and not one coaster.

While surfing the other day I came across a site at http://www.digitalfaq.com/media/dvdmedia.htm linked as http://www.nomorecoasters.com. It is their opinion that not all Riteks are excellent. The Ritek G03 and G04 are listed as 2nd class media. I have also read a review on the new G05 that questioned the quality as compared to the G03 or G04. (I need to located that link).
Just some food for thought
PS I have had no problems with Riteks + media.

hi:
does anyone know if the Ridata 50 packs with white inkjet finish from Newegg are GO4's? the info at the newegg website is Model#: DRD+47-4X-RDIW
Item#: N82E16817132324. I have been using the go4's white inkjets from meritline but newegg stuff is cheaper in price and gets here a lot faster. The other discs I use are Verbatim white injets but they cost $75 for 50. Excellent media but very pricy.
So far I dont see any difference in quality or longevity between the 2 media so I'll go with the cheaper Ridata's...Again, plz let me know if the newegg ridata's are GO4's. regards...

As far as I know the newegg Ridata are RICOHJPN amnufactured with Ritek dye. I do know this they've proven to be very reliable. I'm speaking strictly about the DVD+R 4X.
