Hi,

I spent a great deal of time finding a link to a subject of copying DVDs to CDRs, I'm glad I found one right here.

I'm new into DVD's, because I don't have a DVD burner. I've burned countless number of Audio CD's
and I would like to try ripping DVD's for a change. I plan to buy a good DVD drive, but my main interest is centered on how to copy DVD's to CDR's (just for fun) since they're cheap and have plenty of this stuff.
What's a good software to use? I've read about: DUP-DVD, DVD Wizard pro, DVD Now, DVD Copy Express.

For audio, I've been using Nero 6 Ultra (with Nero Vision), Easy CD Creator 5, Soundforge 7, Adobe Audition 1.0

Would someone be kind enough to share your thoughts
and experiences on a good way to start. Your help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks...

-Dan

I currently have a fast enough computer which is decent enough for me. I have a cdrw+dvd combo. So that program you suggested would work on this?
Thanx for all your time and effort! :)

I'm with Nephilim ... No you can't. Unless your mistaken and actually have dvd/cdrw combo drive.

To be able to rip a dvd you first have to read the dvd, and last time I check a cd rom/burner can't read a dvd.

And for those who still want to disagree with Nephilim and I.

Here are two guides for dvd to vcd/svcd:

DVD to VCD with SmartRipper, DVD2AVI and TMPGEnc

Ok, most common questions what we receive are related to so-called "DVD ripping", which basically means taking a legal backup of your own DVD movie using your computer's DVD-ROM drive. There are various tools and even more methods for creating a "perfect" DVD backup. I'm not going to go into very specific details, normally meant only for ripping experts, but I instead try to go through the backup process step by step with pictures. This guide creates VideoCD compliant video files out of your existing DVDs and those files, once burned to a CD, can be played with normal stand-alone DVD player, just like DVD discs.

Also, if you're more interested of other video formats than VideoCD, you can find our DVD to SVCD guide from here.

Requirements

First of all, you definately need a DVD-ROM drive -- regular CD-ROM drive doesn't do the trick, sorry guys. Secondly, you need helluva lot of free HDD space, appx. 5 to 10 GBs. This is needed only for a short period of time, the actual VCD you're going to get out of this process, is 800MB - 1.3GB. And finally, you need bunch of useful tools that you can download from here:

DVD to SVCD with TMPGEnc

After our extremely successful DVD to VCD guide, we finally decided to create a similiar guide for converting DVD to SVCD. This guide tries to be as easy as possible whilst still maintaining the high quality and trying to avoid all the major issues causing quality to drop.

Requirements

First of all, you definitely need a DVD-ROM drive -- regular CD-ROM drive won't do the trick, sorry guys. Secondly, you need tons of free HDD space, appx. 5 to 10 GBs. This is needed only for a short period of time, the actual SVCD you're going to get out of this process, is going to be three CDs worth of data, appx. 2.4GB. And finally, you need bunch of useful tools that you can download here:

When I read Jay05, original message, I thought he meant exactly like what he said now. Obviously, you need at least a DVD Rom (not necessarily a DVD burner to read the original DVD. A Cdrw won't read DVD's) and a CDrw for recording. But like Jay05, I'm somewhat bewildered but such claims(by DVD Squeeze, Dup-Dvd, Dvd Wizard Pro) that the finished product is as good as the ones done by a DVD burner. From your experience, is this claim valid? I can easily get a DVD rom for 1/8 the price of a DVD burner. And with my old and reliable CDRw, I could start doing things here. After all my requirements are simple and strictly for hobby (like preserving some of our personal DVD's and Home made movies that were custom made for us).

Since I'm in the market for a LiteOn 832S, or a Plextor 708, I would appreciate some feedbacks.

Thanks for your time and efforts...

Is there a better program to rip with than #1 dvd ripper? When I try to rip some movies it tells me it can't process resize filter. And then asks me to open a dvd player like power dvd. Is there a program that doesn't require you to do that?

How do you extract audio files when using DVD Decrypter? I have another problem. When ever I rip a movie it loses audio every few seconds. Plus the movie plays at a slightly faster speed. It seems to lose frames no matter how high of a bitrate I use. Can anyone provide assistance.
