Ok so I've this rig here I think I will use as the server, it's only pulling 100W atm. Specs are:

RAM 2x4 1333mhz = 7.6 GiB
CPU: AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 955 Processor × 4
GFX: Gallium 0.4 on AMD RS880
PRI HDD IS from HP MS 250GB but I have SDD M4 too
MOBO is: ASUS m4a785TD-evo

mobo is my sisters, cpu I was gunna give to her and use her old one being just a dual one unless I need cpu power. Has +4 HDD (more needed but SATA is ful up also its 3gb/s. Got GFX cards but see small point atm HD4470+HD5450 (or6450) passive cooled.

(ideally quietier and more passive - swapping CPU fan for bigger and need fan controller)

I plan on getting a Satalite tuner (we have 2x LNB and just 1 old Sky box).. I plan on both going to the server or even x4 and having XBMC boxes be able to stream from it and even change chanel.

I also wanted to run ZoneMinder and have that on XBMC (Via Myth TV?) for IP CAMs.

Server is Ubuntu Desktop 12.10 using onboard. Has PCIE 1 and 16 free and using SFC XFI and a 5x/3x USB/FW un both PCI slot

The system also downloads media that I have stored. Now another thing is XBMC frontend - I'd like to setup and roll out it "as is" but the frontenders can be android tv sticks, rasp pi, win 8 so it may be hard?

Wanted 4 users and custom menu:
Movie, TV, LIVE TV (SATALITE), CCTV. Music, Prog, System

Some machines will be able to have browsers and games and emus but I dont think on Rasp pi's you can.
