hi all im in the process of filling up a hard drive with movies from my movie wish list - at least ive started to anyway...
the thing is that i would love to be able to watch the movies in my living room without having to convert to dvd, wich is how ive been doing it so far - and its okay BUT ....
i would love to know if theres anything available that will allow playback of these movies ( a range of different formats )without being converted to DVD?
ive heard of something called popcorn hour ???
only briefly hread about this somewhere - never bothered to look into it and i wanted to hear it straight from the AD Squad, what it is that you guys are using for playback on your Flatscreenswithout any problems with playback.
do these things support subtitles too?

I don't know about Popcorn hour but I have my gaming / bluray PC in an adjacent room and connected to a monitor and my LCD TV and Surround system in the living room via a 3 Metre HDMI cable.
I have used Powered DVD, and VLC in the past for playback software but I've now moved onto DVBViewer which is cheap to buy and provides me with HD broadcasts from Freesat (via my old skydish and a Hauppage HD Tuner card) and it plays almost anything i throw at it.
(it does borrow the filters from Power dvd though but there are free ones you could use instead).
I can also use a remote control with it when watching videos from my HDD or my wireless keyboard and mouse.

PC Specs: CPU-C2D E8400, M/B-P5N-E SLI, RAM 4Gig OCZ Platinum rev2 ,VGA- Nvidia 8800GT 512MB, HDD- Hitachi Deskstar SATAII 1TB, 250Gig Maxtor IDE HDD.
Corsair HX520 PSU, Liteon Lightscribe DVD Writer, Pioneer BluRay drive.

there is a million on the market nowadays. but the two most popular are the popcorn hour and the tvix. I think the popcorn hour is the cheapest (same chipset in both). The tvix is able to record OTA channels is the main differnce.

I own the tvix, and can tell you it will do what you're asking. And it is a good product. And from what I have read many places, most people are happy with the popcorn hour also.
