Thinking about dumping cable...anyone use Sickbeard?

Well, the title pretty much sums it up. I'm tired of paying close to $100 a month for a cable service in which I probably only watch about 10 out of the 200 or so channels. I've read about and downloaded Sickbeard but have absolutely no clue or experience when it comes to news groups. Does anyone on here use this program? Pros/cons? Can you point me to a good tut on setting this up? Or are there any other better alternatives?
BTW, I do have more knowledge about torrents but it appears this program works better thru the newsgroups.

A friend of mine uses the system you describe and she loves it. She also has netflix through the roku box. They are not big TV watchers and not sports fans, so it works fine for them.
