My girlfriend recently purchased the Panasonic SC-BT205 blu-ray home theater system and i hooked it up to her 32" sony 1080i LCD tv via HDMI and everything works perfect.. except for the sound not working when trying to use it through the t.v's built in freeview.

As soon as the home theater is turned on, the sound on the t.v is muted. Ive set the "EXT-IN" to D-IN-1, DN-IN-2 and even AUX like the manual has told me to.. but yet i still cant get no sound out of the surround sound speakers.

Knowing my luck it's probably something very simple.. but any help is very much appreciated!

Have you checked the setting on the t.v. itself? I know with alot of t.v. now a-days there is a setting within the t.v. menu that has to be turned off/on in order for the sound to come out from t.v. and surround. When dealing with any type of t.v./sterio always resort to the menu screen or options it will save you alot of stress in the end. If you need more help give me more details about the setup and I will see what i can do. Have a good day.

Are you talking about the built-in tuner, while using an antenna? If so, what kind of audio output from the tv to the surround system, are you using?

I see the Panasonic has two optical inputs. If the tv has an optical output, and you're using that to the receiver, if one of the inputs isn't labeled for tv, you'll probably have to assign the input you use, to the tv. If one of the inputs is factory assigned, you shouldn't need to. But, there may be a setting in the tv's setup menus, to let the tv know you want to use the optical output. As mentioned, you'll probably need to turn the tv's speakers off, in the menus.

If you're using an antenna to get tv channels, the only channels that will be broadcasting in 5.1 surround, are the local HD channels. If you're not getting any of those, you won't get 5.1 surround from the tv.

You mentioned the AUX input. If you use that, you'll be using red & white analog audio cables (stereo). Real surround isn't possible with these. You can use Dolby Pro Logic II setting, which is simulated surround. That's the best you'll get with this type connection.

See "Enjoying Surround Sound Effects" on page 18 (left side), of your manual.
If none of this helps, re-read the manual slowly, and start all over again, going step by step, with the manual.
Good luck.
