What is the proper way to set up a surround sound system? I have some questions in the wiring aspect of it.

Do I take the digital optical cable from the TV to the receiver?
Do I take the digital optical cable from my PS3 to the receiver?

My receiver (HT-Z310) only has 1 optical input on the back.

#1 - No
#2 - Yes
If you need more than one optical input, go to Monoprice.com and search for optical splitter or optical switch. It will allow more optical inputs. They are cheap too.
