I'm wanting to buy a hd tv for bedroom that occasionally we play blue ray on but mostly just hd satelite. Why is it there are very few 1080p hd 26 in. tvs and will I be getting a lot poorer picture with only a 720 vs 1080p on a 26 in....thanks sammy

Because the pictures look the same for 26"HDs in 720p or 1080p.

are you saying the 720 plays blue-ray with the same quality that blue-ray would be on a 50 inch 1080 p tv.

I'm saying on a 26 inch HD TV you can't tell the difference between 720 and 1080; that's why they don't make many.

On 50 inch you're talking different game, but you didn't ask about that size.

If you have cable, they only broadcast at 720p and 1080i. Blu-Ray player will give 1080p and I believe dishes will also. Not many sources of true 1080p. I have a 40" Sammy and it looks fine at 720p or 1080i.

EDIT: I might add, go to a store and compare the pics of the 26" in both varieties, if you can find a 1080p.

ok gentelman you have convinced me that a 26 inch hd tv wirh 720 will do the job of 1080p and as such the bedroom will have a 720 hd tv with a hd receiver...thanks sammy

Have you gone down to a store and just scoped them out, especially what you might be buying? 720p will be fine-my wife's bedroom TV is a 42" LG 720p(her choice) and it's fine. You'll be satisfied with the 720 26", but if you could just go for a 32" you'd be happier.

Another point to consider, how many channels in your area are 1080 versus 720. The majority of shows that my wife watches, ABC, NBC, Fox etc, are broadcast in 720. (Just look at the converter box and it will display the display resolution) We have a 32" 720 by the way. Perhaps in the future more channels/programs will be in 1080, but in my opinion, the majority here in the Carolinas are still in 480 and 720.

@blivetNC

Nothin here in BR on Cox Cable is 1080p. Zilch-nada-nihil. Think I might buy a cheap BR player for HD movies that are really good ones. The junk lately will be on DVD 5. I'm sure BR will appear fine on my 40" 720p. Still not totally convinced to do it yet.

Your point makes perfect sense, the only reason we bought a LCD was the old TV had one too many soap operas and kicked the bucket. 720 looks great at 32". I still haven't considered a BR player yet either, DVD is good enough.

So far leaning agist purchase. Wish I like playing PS3 then I would get a BR player too. But not to be. I stare at the boob tube too much as it is be it pc or tv.

I notice they don't ban the spammers, they made that guy invisible.
