Audio problems with External speakers

Hi all. I recently purchased a LG 23" TV, model number DM2350D. I have connected it to external speakers but have noticed an echo effect when it is used with the TV speakers.
I know that you are supposed to turn the TV speakers off, and just use the external speakers but, when i do this the audio seems to be out of sync with the image on the TV.
The TV speakers work fine though. I was told that all TV's have a secret code where you can adjust the settings. I was wondering if that would be able to fix the issue? Can anyone help?
