Hi, my television screen started going bad I think. It always has lines running horizontally across the entire top of the screen and I don't want to bring it in to get fixed just yet. I wanna know if any of you have an idea as to what could be wrong with it. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Here is a picture I took. Sorry for the lack of quality, but you can see the lines on the top. I think there's even more now than when they first began to appear: http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/6403/hpim2221d.jpg

Are those lines present on any channel or source? Also is it a Plasma or LCD? I also noticed that you got at least three dead/burned in pixels. Those lines could be burned in pixels if they are not moving.

It could be a result of the vertical deflection circuitry becoming non-linear which is not uncommon with old TV's. If it's brand new then it's a manufacturer's defect.

If it's a CRT (tube TV), or Rear Projection LCD, My guess is that a defective filter capacitor in the vertical circuit is faulty and needs to be replaced. It's mostly likely an internal problem that can only be fixed on the inside, so I would bring it in for repair, and wouldn't recommend fixing it yourself because you'll be dealing with high voltages. Even some TV's can still hold a charge even when not connected to an outlet, just like a Power Supply in a PC.

Yeah, it's a flat CRT. The lines are there on every input and I think they jitter a lot. Like they don't seem to be burned into the screen.
