Strange Vertical Lines on HDTV (output from HDPC)

I have an Acer Aspire 5740-5255 with built-in HDMI feeding to a Samsung DL(HLN567W). The Samsung doesn't have HDMI, so I have an ~50' HDMI->DVI cable going from the office where the PC is over to the TV.

When I watch movies on the TV (from the PC), I get these strange vertical bars on the black areas of the screen (it's crystal clear on a widescreen movie, much less noticeably so for a 4:3 show/movie, because the horizontal bands that preserve the aspect ratio (when on a 4:3 movie) are only a few pixels high on the actual TV and therefore much harder to notice . . . on a wideband movie, the black horizontal bands that preserve the aspect ratio are much larger).

I'm hoping there's some easy fix that others have run into. I've done a ton of research on the web and in these forums and can't seem to find anything that fits this symptom. When watching TV or normal movies, I do not get this issue. Please see attached image to see what I'm experiencing.
