Starview 1 clone, flash update failed?

Hi everyone,

i'm trying to flash my box with a newer firmware, but everytime i
press download on GTrom loader v4.00, it fails.
My box is a clone and am trying to update it with the firmware:

CryptStar-v1.5-Core257 clone safe,

or should i use this,

STAR_VIEW_H20060816_257eE_api_FIXED?

I've got a laptop with no null connection so am using a USB to serial
converter, i have installed the drivers for it and in the device manager, it shows as working, the COMM is set to COMM2 and the bits per second is at 115200.
The only thing i an thinking that is wrong is that i am not using
a null modem cable, but a mini gender changer adapter between the
USB to serial converter and the RS232 connection on the starview
box:

Could this be me problem?
I switch the box on at the back with the cables connected, then run GTrom loader, select the COMM i am using which is 2, then insert the Bin file and press download but all i get is the "flash update failed" box.

I would be very grateful if someone could let me no what i am
doing wrong.
