dvd recorder keeps ejecting blank LG DR7400

i have a LG DR7400 dvd-recorder and everytime i put in a blank disc it rejects it and gives the message like "unknown Disc" it happens with every disc brand i try even brands i have used lots of times previously
it will however usually work for discs that have already been recorded on whether or not they have been finalised - but not always.
i have unplugged it a number of times but that hasn't worked either.
help please
