Panasonic DMR-ES20 Records in Mono??

I've had a Panny stand alone DVD recorder for a number of years. Overall I've been pretty happy with it. I recently started using wireless headphones and noticed that the Panny is not recording in stereo. I have the cable box connected to the DVD recorder input.

Has anyone experienced this problem? Any idea if the newer Panasonic models have corrected this issue?
