Hi Guys,
This is my first day ever posting so kindly forgive me if I make mistakes,I chose AD asa long time reader and you're rarely pretentious to newbies.
Is there any benefit to buying ripping programs vs all the freeware out there and would someone please give me a short list of which software works best with which? Example Handbrake works best with DVDCopy DVD Decrpyter is best with DVD Shrink etc (I was spitballing, I have no idea which is best with which) I'd love to hear your faves as I've created about 20 coasters already and I'm not rich.
Thanks for going "kid gloves" with a new guy.

Your best bet is dvd fab .. free is fine for 90% of disks .. just go download from the link that AD will provide in blue when I hit post. .. hmm.. maybe not.. heres the link.. http://www.dvdfab.com/free.htm no need for payware.. it takes a little finding from their homepage.

Shrink and decrypter while being dependencies are obsolete and won't deal with most disks from the last 4 years or so... fab is the baby.. or you "could" buy any dvd.. but as a linux user I have never needed it.

How very kind of you, thanks. Yep, that's what happened, anything I tried to back up on Decryp from the past, anything recent crashed. Sometimes very late into the film, but inevitably, just frisbee tossing disc after disc into the trash (getting to be a pretty good shot for just $20!)What shrink package shall I use with Fab?
Thanks my friend

Hey,
Also, what's the Free DVD link below Fab on the same page, is this to be used in conjunction?
Cheers

Rip with dvdfab Decrypter (freeware),

Process with fixvts/vobblanker (freeware),

Compress with dvd shrink/dvd rebuilder (freeware),

Burn with imgburn (freeware).

Oh is that all? (he he)"Process" is a step I wasn't even familiar with. So process with "fixitmrwizardwobblygong" (he he, how pretentious! They couldn't have just named it EZ Process or something like that)? I swear, if it wasn't for the AD site, I'd just start buying two copies of each movie. Made enough coasters to pay for 2 of em already, but I'll get there. So kind of you.
Cheers

"Process"....."clean up"....."tweak".....it all means the same. Dvdfab is known as not always producing the cleanest of rips, so an extra step is needed.

If you skip using fixvts or vobblanker, then dvd shrink/dvd rebuilder sometimes has a hard time compressing the movie.

AnyDVD is worth buying -- that's about it.
Maybe DVDFab if you insist on a "one click" or "single software" solution.
