I'm looking to back up my DVD (Non Blue Ray) collection onto multiple external hard drives. I'm looking for guidance after ripping as I'm aware of whats required to get to that point.

I have been looking at Handbrake but after reading numerous articles I'm confused on what the best settings are if Handbrake is used. I have an Iphone4 and Ipad Mini but my overall goal is to preserve the movies electronically as small and as universally as possible. I would like to be able to use a medium in the future (Apple TV or whatever) to play these movies on a 50" TV.

Fitting this criteria what would you suggest from your experiences. One thing I keep running into is people wasting valuable storage space when they use the AT3 or AT2 settings since all non-Blue Ray DVD's cannot be viewed larger than 720.

If this belongs somewhere else I apologize. I cannot find a better location.
