Can I recover timing/chapter info when converting back from DVD

Hi

I have been charged with breaking down football video from other high schools in the area. We get scouting footage on DVD's which I convert to .MOV files for import into our Scouting software program. Problem is, that I have to manually break down each play from the single long clip of video on the DVD. Is there a program (PC or MAC) that can recognize the original breaks in the film clips? I have no idea what types of camera's are used nor software used to convert the information to DVD. Some of the disks have chapter data on them, and I can convert them to individual video clips and that works great. Thanks for any help
