I'm trying to convert a dvd into an avi/divx/mkv file. I've used a lot of dif programs and i've read through many threads on this forum, however the output quality is not very great and you can see boxes. i'm looking for any method to produce the avi/divx/mkv, doesn't matter how long the process takes, and my size constraint is 2 gb. the smaller the size the better of course, but 2gb is my limit. i want as close to dvd quality as possible. any ideas or methods? I've tried AoA DVD Ripper, MeGUI, DVDFab, Xilisoft, Aimersoft, Fairuse Wizard, and AutoGK. Of these, DVDFab, Fairuse, and Aimersoft were the best, however the outputs still had boxes.

Any method would help. Thanks!

Are you getting these artifacts when playing on the PC or just with burns playing on stand-alone DVD player? If you are getting such lousy results on all those programs maybe the source isn't so great.

Check into AviSynth filters to clean it up.

Unless you give a not more detail it's useless to ask for assistance. How can anyone suggest anything when they have no idea how fast your machine is, if you run other jobs while doing the conversion, what OS you have, what codecs.

From the little you've said it sounds like you are using the PC while running the conversions... but all I can do is guess since there's almost zero info in your posts.
