DVD Decrypter Not Ripping Properly

So I have over 350 DVD's and I've ripped all of them using DVD decrypter. Out of all those movies, maybe 20 of them work right. Most of the movies (when opened in Windows Media Player after changin the .VOB to a .MPG) have 0:00 as the length of the movie, or some random amount of time (15:45, or 45:34, etc).
The movie starts at the beginning and ends with the credits, but will skip huge chunks in the middle. On the ones with 0:00, they will sometimes start in the middle of the movie, and always at different points.
Does this happen when I change the file extension, or is it the ripping process that has been unsucessful? The ones that do work have had the file extensions changed the same way and been ripped the same way, but for some reason most of them don't work.
This happens with old movies, new movies, etc. There's really no rhymre or reason to which ones work and which don't.
Help?? Please?

There is a reason.. it's called copy protection. Decrypter is obsolete though it is a dependency for more modern rippers... try dvdfab (free)

we are using AnyDVD for the copyright protection stuff, and like I said, some movies work (even some brand new ones). Why would it randomly work on some but not on others?

and movies that I've ripped before successfully (we were able to convert them for the iPod and watch them just fine) when ripped again (lost files when computer format) didn't work. So I'm pretty sure it has nothing to do with the individual DVD's...they all work when I play from the disk, and they worked earlier...and we just formatted and redownloaded decrypter so it should be just fine...

Okay, so try viewing said movies in VLC instead of WMP.
Rip with either AnyDVD (make sure you're using the latest version)
Or DvdFab HD Decrypter (free).

Everyone always suggests using different software. When DVD decrypter has failed for me. I try DVD Fab and it fails even worse.
Regrettably there are no experts who know what the DVD producers are doing to make ripping programs fail. All I know is that it has something to do with cell breaks. If you change the settings in DVD decrypter to use IFO mode and split files by cell, you can eliminate the time errors and missing parts problem, but there will be a minor sound hiccup between each file when appended together.

If you search Afterdawn for the 350 movie titles, I expect you will find that most have been ripped successfully using DVDFab.
After ripping the disks, they can be processed through 'FixVTS' to bring them into better conformity with the DVD standard.

Given the thousands of posts at Afterdawn, it's unlikely the program is at fault.

I think one of the major misunderstandings which very often occurs in these forums is that you have one group of people who rip to vob and then transcode the vob files directly to create stand-alone AVI/DivX/Mp4/Mov files and another group who are into making DVD clones/copies. So when the transcoders say they're having a problem, the cloners respond with "I ripped that movie with same software and had no problem at all.", but they don't realize that they're doing an apples-to-oranges comparison.
For example I just spent several hours trying to figure out how to rip the movie "Aliens_Special Edition". The vob files which resulted from ripping with DVD_Fab could not be loaded into DivX_Author. I finally stumbled on the solution, which was to use DVD_Decrypter in IFO mode and split the files according to "Vob_ID". For whatever reason, this eliminated the timecode/runlength & skipped cells problem that occured if the files were split any other way. I don't believe that the free version of DVD_Fab provides this option.

There was a time when DVDFab produced unclean rips, that in my case caused DVD Rebuilder to crash. Since then i've always run Vobblanker after each rip to ensure crash/problem-free conversions. I have no idea if DVDFab is still one of the great unwashed as am unwilling to stop using Vobblanker (apart from when i use DVDFab 4.1.20 that is, as that version produces clean rips).
I'll bet that is all that's stopping DivX_Author from using the files from DVDFab..

Any version of DVD Fab HD Decrypter prior to version 6.0 WILL do this automatically... I've done it. Any version after v6 will also do it automatically, but ONLY under the 30-day trial period.
Make sure your download link is from the DVDFab/Free site.

DvdFab still has a free version. I've searched here and at CDF and find no mention of them stopping their free ripper.

the only problem i have had with DVD decrypter is that i can't see how i can choose the language to rip in: i've been just ripping main movie files to save space 9 and also the menus wont work if i rip them too) and most of the time it's no problem
however i have ripped movies in spanish and many different types of audio commentary, anyone ever have the same problem and ideas to fix??
have DVDfab on 30day trial and it worked great!!

Update:
We started using DVD Fab-it works fine to rip all movies, even new ones. It rips into like 1 gig segements. we then ahve been using Roxio to convert the files from the multiple .vob files to a divx file or wmv. the problem is this: it takes ALL NIGHT (no kidding-8+ hours) to convert. we've tried changing the size of the files, what type of file, but we are reluctant to reduce the quality. there has got to be a faster way to do this (get a dvd from the disc to the computer in a viewable format). I can't imagine too many people spending all this time ripping and converting thier large dvd collections.

No they don't. DVD Fab free versions split VOB files the same as they are split on the source DVD. VOB-ID has nothing to do with file splitting. You can have multiple VOB-IDs within a single VOB file on the source DVD. It's quite confusing, but some transcoding software like DIVX Author goes berserk when it runs into a different VOB-ID within the same VOB file.

You've either got a slow computer or the software is slow. If you provide the details about your system (cpu, memory, motherboard etc) we can rule that in or out.
Check which DivX codec you have installed. I've got version 6.8.5 and it utilizes multiple cpu cores (if you have them). On my Intel quad-core q6600 system, DIVX AUTHOR will transcode a movie using two passes (analysis pass and encoding pass in less time than it takes to watch the movie.)

If you switch to IFO mode and enable "stream processing" you'll be able to see all of the streams that are available on the Source Disk. You can then select which ones you want included in the VOB files that DVD Decrypter will generate or you can choose to have them "demuxed" (demultiplexed) into separate (out-of-the-VOB-container) files (M2V(mpeg2), AC3(Audio), SUB(subtitle) etc.)
