This dvd movie has been copied successfully on a Verbatim double layer disc and won`t play on 2 computers and 3 standalone dvd players. Is it new technology stopping it?

Down-garde your blank media from DVD+R DL to DVD-R DL 'cos maybe your Burner is getting old......and, or you can also upgrade your firmware for your burner.

hope this help.

If the burner burn.....then is not a Firmware problem.

If your Backup DVD Playback stops in the middle of the movie, It sounds like you are not Compressing the Movie correctly or you try to backup all the info from the Original disc.(Previews, Movie and extras)

You need to understand that most of the original DVD Movies of today are made on Doubble layers DVD's (8.5GB) and you try to transfer all that info into a Single Layer DVD (4.7GB.

So to be able to have a great back up.....just choose theMovie Only (On DVDFab, Any DVD or at DVD Shink): the rest is just garbage anyway......now your compression settings will aloud you to have a better results since Movie Only is less info on GB's and more easy to fit on a single Layer DVD.

Ok......you still have the Menus.....make use of Re-Autor to get ready of them and also to compress to around 4,300GB.
If your problem still there......then it could be your Media or even if your burner is new (Should be burn perfectly on + or -R's)...... maybe you have a "lemon".
If you can.....try to make use of an external Burner.

(1) The "menus" is not highlighted so that was not included. (2) I`m going to try different media. (3) The burner burns ok.

1. Did you burn with imgburn?

2. Did you turn on "booktyping"? Not all drives support this, but needed with +R media.

3. Did you finalize the disc?

If it does not play, it's likely not finalized - or a faulty burn.

Also, at what speed did you burn? DL media can be a pain to get right - the reason that I reserve it for only necessary burns.

(1) Not at first, but now i go through dvd fab>dvd shrink>imgburn. (2) Where do i turn on "booktyping". I now use Taiyo Yuden dvd-r. (3) No.---However, at the time of "dvds won`t play" i was only using dvd shrink/anydvd. So by using dvd fab-dvd shrink-imgburn the dvds now play. Maybe the full process wsan`t completed just by using dvd shrink and any dvd.

It looks like you have found your answer. That's good.

I typically burn at or less than the posted speed, especially with DL media.

Which means: 2.4X or 4X - usually imgburn will recommend, or even slow things down.

TY, Verbatim, you can't go wrong.

With 16X JVC (TY) 4.7 GB (single layer) media: 12X is a typical burn on a 24X burner...

The older 18X and 20X burners worked better at 8X

DVD-R DL is a pc based format and nearly all stand alone dvd players will not play this format
