Hello, I already have DVDFab Platinum, Magic DVD Ripper and ImTOO DVD Ultimate. I usually use Magic DVD Ripper to rip movies, it doe's the job fine, except for one little thing. I am half deaf and need subtitles, but when I rip the movie along with the subs, I can't turn them off, I want to be able to turn them off so that my Mum and Brother could watch the movies without subs. So, I was wondering if anybody knew of any programs (I don't care if it's freeware or payware) that rips the movie to .AVI format and then extracts the subs or something into a .srt file or something.
If nobody can find anything then a link for a program that extracts/rips the subs from a movie will do.

Are you ripping DVD movies then converting them to AVI format with hard subs - because simply ripping a movie does not prevent the subs from being turned off.

No, I'm ripping it and it converts automatically to AVI during the ripping process.

You can use DVDSubEdit to open DVD files that have been ripped to the hard drive (DVD movie files - not AVI files).

File > Open Full Domain.
Select the first .vob file of the main title (usually - not always - VTS_01_1.VOB) and load the movie.
On the upper right of the pane, select the subtitle stream.
On the lower right pane, 'Run OCR' and 'Save as .srt'

Pls try DVD Shrink. You can back up the whole DVD with all available audio, languages and subtitles with FULL DISC function. Or you can choose only the language you want for subtitle and audio, main movie
only ( Previews cut ). Ripping is auto, requires 5 GB hard disc space to store the ripped video. Version 3.2 works well with the XP Windows except that there are some DVDs it can't rip. I'm using the shareware version and I think the paid version would be more stable and compatable with various Codex.

The only paid versions of DVD Shrink are scams ~ http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/539803
