I have question out of curiosity. I understand that DVD ripping is illegal if you are breaking any encryptions whether or not you own the DVD or even if you are doing it just for Fare Use (such as ripping it to go on your ipod and nothing more) However I am wonder how do you get caught doing this? Is there anyway you can get caught? Other then selling copies, p2p or uploading online I don't see anyway the MPAA can catch you. Am I missing something? Is there a "phone home" feature on DVDs that tell them you are using a DVD ripper on them? Does it leave a trace on the disk? If not why would there be an uncrackable law? Seems strange.

DRM laws was update on April 2007...They move forward to protect consumers rights. They try to impose limitations on the use of Digital Content and divices.
Since you own the Data of any form (DVD, CD, MP3, etc) you have the right to back them up in orden to use back ups and save your original on a safe place.....in special when you have kids or many friends here and there....etc.
