Hello afterdawn, ive ripped a DVD using AnyDVD, also converted the .vob's to AVI with OJOsoft VOB converter, now at this point the picture quality is on par with DVD quality, but when i attempt to merge the AVI's using Xilisoft video converter the quailty drops by quite a bit, more pixilated and what have you, while merging i use DivX video (*.avi) as my profile (output). Is there something im doing wrong? any ideas on how to merge these avi's and keep the quality?
are the avi's of the same framerate/bitrate/resolution? if they are you can use avidemux to merge them. Open first video/append 2nd video.
Avidemux will merge without reencoding (no quality lost).
If the avi's are of different bitrates etc, when you merge them you will lose quality everytime, because it will need to be reencoded.
Your best bet is to use a high bitrate and maybe the 2-pass mode to get a better finished video.
You might want to look for a different converter. There is no need to convert to AVI each VOB individually, and then merge them, you can do the entire DVD at once. You can use a good free software like AUtoGK or FairUse Wizard.
Maybe your converter can do that, but you have not figured out how yet. It should, if not, is pretty much worthless.
