I've started using handbrake to convery my videos into m4v files. I've just done one now which has converted perfectly expect for when I first open the video there is a short, sharp "blast" of sound before the movie begins playing properly. how can I cut this out as very few programs will recognise m4v files.
Run AviDemux and load/drag the source video.
On the left of the window, set:
Video > Copy
Audio > Copy
Format > MP4 Using the slider and A/B buttons, delete the bad part.
One problem is that it wants to cut on I frames which means you might have to cut more than you want to.
File > Save > Save Video and save the new file as new.mp4 or new.m4v (you have to add the extension yourself).
If that doesn't suit, and you want to silence the audio instead of cutting the video,I would try opening/dragging the source video file into Audacity and see if it will load the audio.
(You may have to install the mp3/ffmpeg libraries: Edit > Preferences > Libraries).
If it loads the audio, select the part that is bad and Generate > Silence.
File > Export the entire file as a wav.

On the top menu, Audio > Main Track > Audio Source > External WAV and browse to the new wav file.

Otherwise try the Videohelp site for better suggestions.
