Hi,
I have tried a few of the free programs to rip a DVD:

What I want to do is to Rip my DVD's to my computer in a good quality. I will then store them onto an external HDD
which i will then connect to my tablet to watch (android) also when I am away I will connect my tablet to a
Large'ish TV to play them (saves me taking DVD's with me) so that is why I need them to be good quality.

I ripped a dvd with a few free programs inc handbreak etc, into an MP4 but then it wouldnt play on the computer.....
I am quite tech savy, but no nothing about dvd/video settings formats ect!!

I have a mac book pro, can i use this to do it as my old laptop is not that old, but a bit slow and needs a
re-format!
Any help will be greatfully recieved as i am pulling my hair out at the moment trying to work out how to do it and what would be best!!!! AAARRRR!!!

I use a PC so can't be of much help with Mac software, but Handbrake would be a common choice. Lots of people use it on Windows although I prefer MeGUI. It has more of a learning curve than Handbrake. Ripbot264 and ffdcoder are two other popular choices for Windows.

Can you normally play MP4 video on your computer or is it just your Handbrake encodes which won't play? Did it play using your other devices? It might be due to not having the required codecs for decoding. Try using MPC-HC (Windows) to see if it'll play the MP4. Out of the box it comes with and uses it's own audio and video decoders so it doesn't rely on system codecs being installed.

Not an answer I am afraid but I fear to compound the problem. I too wish to play my DVDs on my noce new Windows 7 Laptop but just cant get it to work Have tried

DVD Decryptor
HD Decryptor
Handbrake
VLC

so on and so forth.

I am quite happy to accept a lot of blame as I dont know what I am doing as altho I love tech I am NOT a techy and expected that these bits of software woud guide you through but oh no they expect you to understand and I just dont. Any help you can give would be great.

I hope someone can help

Thanks all
Stuart
