Going to encode 1000 SD DVDs to a NAS to stream to various computers and TVs. I am looking to keep the highest resolution possible with the smallest file size. I have the ripping down pat what I would like to know is what is your choice of format, approx. file size for a 4.7GB DVD, what is your favorite program, and why? There are hundreds of threads here basically asking the same question with 1 or 2 responses. I am hoping this Poll will kind of consolidate the information and make it easier to find the answers to questions that always come up.
I kinda like VOB blanker and used it to back up my movie collection in the past but it's been a few years since I've used it. I also like Handbrake mainly because it runs on my Linux boxes. I can get a SD movie down to around 800mb with pretty good resolution and have the options to tweak the sound and crop a little off those super wide movies.
