Hi all,

I'm ripping my TV seasons off DVD on to my new Mac mini PLEX system. I have buckets of HDD space so I really don't want to recompress. I'm happy to use the mpg2 straight from the disc. I'm still working out my process before I scale it up. Currently I am demuxing/remuxing during ripping to remove unwanted audio and subtitle tracks (keeping English audio and subtitles). One last piece of the puzzle I haven't been able to figure out is preserving chapter markers. Is there any easy way to preserve the markers in the mpg stream without using something like handbrake which requires recompressing? Where do the chapter markers reside anyway? Are they metadata in the m2v file?

The chapter information is in the IFO file.
Unless your demuxer can optionally save it as a separate file to be used when you mux the streams, it's lost.
I'm not familiar with Mac, but in Windows, the likes of PgcDemux can save the chapter info, by frame number, (AKA cell times) to a text file.
