Can someone help me. I am basically a non-techie. I am currently attempting to do away with my dvd library. I am converting the dvd's using dvd decrypter and then storing them on an external hard drive. No issues there, quality, sound etc excellent. My issue is each dvd when converted is coming out at a minimum of 5 gigs. This is taking up huge amounts of space on my external hard drive. My questions are: is there a way of reducing the size of the converted file without losing quality, am I using the right tool? Any help is appreciated.
Regards
Taff
You will probably find, with more recent DVDs, that DVD Decrypter gives you some issues with the copy protection (but this is irrelevant for now, I'm just saying).
You can use DVD Shrink to cut out the extra bits you don't need, reducing the size on your HDD. Are you just storing them in ripped format, ie .vob files in a VIDEO_TS folder?
One thing to consider would be encoding them to an mp4 as compression:quality is good and you would only use max 2 gigs per movie whilst retaining a decent copy.

No you rip the movie without compression then convert to mp4 or mkv with handbrake or vidcoder,mp4 is selected if you want compatibility between devices
