Recently I've started the task of converting another 100 DVDs
from my collection to .avi files that will reside in my NAS.
However, after the first 100 DVDs I've converted, which took
multiple computers and months weeks and weeks of time, I've been
in search of a faster method.
I've used various software ranging from DVDx to AutoGk, and they
all seem to take at least or more than the actual length of the
movie to convert to a good quality .avi file (using either Xvid or DivX)
I was wondering if anyone of you very knowledgeable members knew
which program would go through the converting process of DVD to
.avi fastest.
In addition, I was wondering if there were any programs that I can
run multiple tasks on (multiple instances), so I can convert couple
movies at a time.
I currently have 5 computers at my disposal:
Lowest being
2.4GHz Dual core, 3GB of memory and 8600 series Graphics card
Highest being
3.2GHz Quad core, 8GB of memory and 4870x2 Graphics card
(GPU was mentioned just in case you guys suggest a new method of gpu utilizing encoding)
If AGK is set for 'Target Quality' instead of a fixed size, it runs only one pass instead of two.
With AGK you can keep adding jobs and (as long as each job has a different output name) you can run off a batch of movies.

Can you run multiple conversions at the same time?
I know you can select a batch, but they don't seem to be converted
simultaneously, just put in queue so after the first one is done,
next one goes automatically in sequence.
Thank you nonetheless for the "target quality" suggestion, didn't know
that!
I don't know about multiple conversions.
There is something referred to as 'multi instance mode' that is supposedly used with a command line - but I never seen any reference to it except in the release notes - perhaps the hot-shots at Doom9 or Videohelp have more information.
