Hey guys,

First off, let me apologize for being what I call technology inept when it comes to computers. I readily admit that. So if I sound stupid in what I am saying, that's why.

I have a Dell Dimension 3000 (I know, an older computer). And it has recently started to slow down a little bit.

After doing a little research it seems like the first thing to try to speed it up is to add RAM. So, I started looking and I have gotten myself more confused than anything.

I have 512 of RAM, which I understand is completely slow.

After doing some looking on the Dell website, it is confusing me.

This computer has 2 'slots' evidently, but I don't know if I can add 1gig total, or 1 gig per slot. And what would be the best memory to get.

My Service code is: HGYJS81 if that helps in helping me.

If someone could help me in determining what to get, and how much I can get would be extremely helpful.

Thanks for the help, this site has yet to disappoint me.

Thanks ddp,

I wasn't sure on that and I got so turned around on their site.

One more question, do you recommend any particular brand of RAM, or is it pretty much the same?

Here is one I found on Amazon that seems like a good deal.

http://www.amazon.com/Kingston-400MHZ-PC...d=1IF044YQZIL6G

I'm not familiar, with any specific brands or anything.

Thanks again.

Thanks again ddp,

I am assuming, for what I am using the computer for (basicly internet stuff and word processing - no gaming or anything) that I won't notice much of a difference in brands or anything.

Going from 512 to 2 gig should be a considerable jump anyway.

Thanks for that link, I'll tkae a look there and see if I can't find something that makes sense for me. I just didn't want to get the wrong thing and have it not work right. It seems pretty straight forward to install. Just pop out the old one and put the new ones in, and makes sure they are slotted tight. I don't think even I cna screw that up... of course now that I say that I will probably destroy my computer. :-)

I did open up the case to look last night and was amazed at the amount of dog hair in the case. It was like I had a minituare poodle in there. Damn...

Okay, time to go shopping. :-)

I'm thinking I am going to go with this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820141308

That should work right? I have zero idea what all these specs mean, man I feel like such an idiot looking for this type of stuff.

The sad thing is, when I went to Staples this afternoon to ask for help there... I think I knew more abou tit than the guy trying to help me. :-)
