I have an ASUS 4870x2 with EK Full Cover Block in a p5q pro board that does not boot (no display) I get the 1 long beep + 3 short beeps (video card seating issue) I have re seated it 20+ times to no avail I swapped video card with another PC's 8600gt both cards work in the other PC though the 4870x2 takes a little longer to start booting the PC, the other PC's card works fine in the p5q pro but not the 4870x2 after swapping them back. I tried both PCI-E slots on the p5q pro, but I get the same result after numerous tries
I want to use the 4870x2 (2gb) not the 8600gt (256mb)
What could be the problem and how to fix it? ... Suggestions welcome
neither PC is using SLI or Crossfire and are both running from DVI to DVI

i'm using a 1200w thermaltake toughpower all connections are fine (6 pin v3 and 8 pin v3 or v4 tried both and cards worked before just fine) the q6600 cpu is getting 8 pin 12v rail tried both 4 pin 4+4pin and the 8 12v rail (not that it should matter much) i'm using raid 1 (2x 250gb for C:\) and (2x 250gb D:) bios is set for raid i put the stock cooler back on with thermal pads and paste. checked both 8500c8df rams seperate and together.
you might as well disregard the watercooling aspect a bit since its back to fans for now but i don't understand why the 4870x2 and 8600gt both work in the other pc but only the 8600gt works in the p5q pro if i could i would probably buy the same board again but now it's expensive ddr3 ram and socket LGA 1156 and 1366 boards and the only good ones are i7 $346 followed by $6xx then $1300+ cpu alone and odd enough they only support 1066 and the lower ends 1333 wtf!
q6600 cpu
2gb 6400c4 ram
750w thermaltake toughpwer
sorry for long post typed as i thought and went along.
problem still exists with fan cooling

Sounds like a fault with the P5Q Pro board, PCIe slot is obviously dodgy and can't handle a 2 GPU card. I'd RMA the board myself, especially since it's an Asus.

I did and I payed $15 and 2 weeks + 3 days (weekend and Monday) just for them to send it back in the same condition or worse and the thing to hold it in at the end of the slot on the primary PCI-E 16x is so flexible now (you can pull the card out without moving the thing to hold it in without effort) I was also able to use this card before for 2 years now and if i use the card in the other PC i get artifacts now right from boot
I was gonna buy an XFX 4890 XT 1GB for $188 - $250 AUD since the 8600gt works in the board fine even after login
Model Number :HD-489A-ZDEC (not HD-489A-ZDE7)
reply quick it ends in 22 hours 4/09/2010

So the 4870X2 artifacts in the other PC? I thought you said it worked fine? If it's dodgy in both systems, then it sounds like you need to RMA it.
$250AU sounds a lot for a 4890, you can buy an HD5830 new from Mwave for $280.

whatevet i do it's just till the 6xxx series is released as the 5xxx series is a joke in performance increase but the more expensive ones like $500 1GB and 2GB - $1500 4GB are good but may need WC the others like the 5770 - 5870 are cooler and maybe 5890
http://www.overclock.net/ati/673014-5870...5890-temps.html
scroll to screenshots of 5870 card in guys hand and the catalyst overdrive stats this is at stock i believe notice fan is at 30% 19'C

The 5 series is far from a joke in performance increase. The HD5870 is 80% faster than the HD4870, which is a big generational gap. The only problem is that it's far more expensive due to (until recently) the lack of effective competition from nvidia.
No ATI card needs water cooling. In fact, no graphics card from any company needs watercooling. If it overheats, doing it wrong.
There is no such thing as an HD5890.

http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=183470 there will be and its a 28nm gpu oh and 59xx is there too oh and this could be off topic (well I created this thread anyway so). AMD is getting rid of the ATI brand and renaming the cards under AMD sometime and going towards APU's (Accelerated Processing Unit - CPU/GPU and others on the same die) and Radeon will then be AMD Radeon and AMD FirePro.

Not true. That roadmap was speculative, and is 7 months old. The 28nm project was scrapped after TSMC couldn't keep up with the demand for its existing products.
The HD5890 will never be, and instead will come the HD6800 series, still on a 40nm process.
The AMD Radeon idea had been on the cards for years, it doesn't really change anything.
