Just bought a Biostar I45 motherboard off ebay & am not sure if it supports ATI or Nvidia.

I was going to get 4GB DDR2 800 Geil Black Dragon Ram & a Q6600 Quad Core CPU to go with it but im not sure of the specs of this motherboard.

Any help is appreciated.

Suggestion:

Familiarize youself with google AND this site, looks like you're gonna need it.

http://www.biostar.com.tw/

Motherboard link:

http://www.biostar-usa.com/app/en-us/t-power/content.php?S_ID=365

Specs:

Intel LGA775 Platform

Support latest Intel Socket 775 Core 2 Extreme/Core 2 Quad/Core 2 Duo Processors

Support Intel 45nm CPU processors
Intel P45+ICH10R chipset
FSB 1600(OC)/1333/1066
Dual-Channel DDR2 -1200(OC)/1066(OC)/800
Support AMD CrossFire X Technology

It's a crossfire board there fore it's ATI (AMD).

And you bought this without knowing any of the specs?????

Cheers for the quick reply ;)

According to this site Biostar I45 it supports a single ATI or Nvidia card, but 2 ATI cards in Crossfire.

Therefore i purchased this card from ebay :

I was hoping to add a Quad Core Q6600 CPU & this ram : Geil 4GB DDR2 800

Didnt have any intentions of buying a GFX card but it was going for a good price & there was only 5 mins left in the auction.

Also noticed on a few sites it will support the Ram & CPU & even the Nvidia card, but im not so sure now about the card.

If it doesnt accept the Nvidia card, what would you reccomend ?

=(

All motherboards (AFAIK) will support 1 of ANY video card.

If you have a motherboard that supports 2 video cards and even remotely plan to use the feature, you should probably select the one that the motherboard supports, hence my recommendation. (which I now see was somewhat poorly worded.)

The Biostar site has the latest information on CPU and memory support. I would suggest that you check there to make sure that your components are compatible.

Not to be harsh, but your project seems a little poorly thought out. A "good" price isn't really a good price if the components don't match well.

Yeah, you're right mate.

It was poor judgement & lack of thought.
Did a bit of research on the Motherboard & found that everythings compatible, ie DDR2800 ram, Quad Core support etc etc & it seems this is a pretty good motherboard.

Just a pity i got a Nvidia card & not a good ATI instead.

At least its a big step up from my current system:

Pentium 4 @ 2.80GHz
Shuttle FB65
2GB Geil DDR400
ATI Raedon HD3650 AGP

You have a good start.

Maybe you can eBay back the video card and get the one you really want.

Your old system still has value. I eBay off all my outdated stuff and get a little back to subsidize the new system.

Next time will be easier.

Think i might just do that.

Any idea of an ATI card thats better than the Nvidia one i just bought & around the same price.
Just sold my PS3 so im getting back into the PC scene.

EDIT = I havent bought the Q6600 either.
Do you think its a good choice ?
I heard it was a good performer & a great overclocker, although i wont be overclocking it much anyway.

Cheers for the help.

I am the wrong one to ask about "best" CPU.

For me, the "best" is the most powerful thing I can get on sale the day that I need it that meets the minimum requirements.

Sometimes I buy bundles, take the CPU and sell the motherboard.

No, get a Q8400 instead of a Q6600.
The watercooled 8800 is a bizarre choice as well, it was a waste unless it cost you less than £60 / $80

Ok, just purchased this card 9800GT on ebay for £65 including P&P.

I know i wont get SLI on the motherboard, but that doesnt matter as i'll get a better motherboard when the money situation improves & maybe another 9800GT.

Id rather stick with Nvidia anyway, had a couple of dodgy cards off them.

Ill have to ebay the Shuttle to get funds for the Q8400 & a decent power supply.

Any idea how much i should ask for the Shuttle ?
I just ordered 2GB Geil DDR400 for it as i was going to keep it & its a great little system, but could do with the extra cash.

Cheers
