Ok so there are six people in my house, and not all of us are able to connect to the internet as well as everyone else depending on their location in the house. So what I want to do is hook another router up to the primary router to provide another access point. Is it as simple as connecting them through an ethernet cord? That's what I have done right now but it does not seem to be working. Any input appreciated, thanks a lot.

You will need to connect the new router directly to your computer with an ethernet cord. Then you can type in the ip address of the router. Most of the time it is 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1. You can find the default ip by looking at the manual. After you type the ip address into your web browser you will get to the configuration web page. Now you need to give the router a different ip because it is probably the same as your other router. just change the last number to anything between 1 and 254.

Next you need to turn off dhcp. You can have only one dhcp server on your network at a time. Your primary router is doing that so if you have the new one running you will have problems. Then when that is done you can configure the wireless for your needs.
