I have come across an old Dell Dimension 2300 Desktop PC. i decided this would be a great way to back up all of my old PC hard drives onto one large external drive so i dont plan on putting any serious money into this computer to get it working.
My G4 Powerbook works flawless on my external monitor as a desktop computer, so i know the monitor works great, but when i hook up the dell to the monitor and turn the pc on, i hear one long beep, then 3 short beeps. there is nothing on the display other then the monitor flashing between analog and digital video signals and not finding anything.
My friend told me to buy a PCI video card but like i mentioned above, i dont want to put much money in this computer as ill only use it for maybe a week then its going on ebay.
Any idea's? Dell Dimension 2300, 1 long beep, 3 short beep, no video?
I solved my own problem with no solution, after much research and trial and error i figured out that the beep error i was getting means the computer has incorrect ram which makes no sense as this is the factory ram that came in the pc from dell.
i tested the ram in another pc i had sitting around and it works just fine so i know both sticks of ram are working correctly. WHICH MEANS! that the RAM slots on the motherboard are broken. so the solution to this problem is a new motherboard which isnt going to happen so if anyone is having this problem with there pc its a memory error so to check the ram, if the ram doesnt correct anything then the motherboard is broken.
