When i try to select it in control panel/advanced audio settings it isn't saved, it always reverts to stereo.Very frustrating!

I have tried system restore/driver reinstall/have tested all hardware on other pc.

I'm getting hiss from my rear speakers when turning up volume, but that's all!

What's my best move here?

Soundmax integrated digital audio/windows xp/s pack 3/intel pentium/2.80ghz/0.99gb ram
