iv recently lost all comunication with my pc, so i put a new windows xp onto it. when iv getting it all working again and found that it has no hardwear for ethernet port hardwear. iv been into device manager and its just not there. it crashed out and when everything got up and running it was gone. i think i got a bad virus even though i was protected with norton. i had to press f8 and f12 to get into some kind of program to chage the 1st floppy start up to cdrom start up, might of changed something els i cant remember. is there any way to reset my motherboard so that it might find my ethernet port when booted back up

The ethernet port can't be disabled by reinstalling windows. It will not function, however, if the driver for it is not installed.

If it's not there at all, it should at least be in the unknown hardware section instead. Try 'scan for hardware changes'.

If it is onboard check you did not dissable it when you were messing about in your BIOS when you changed the boot priority. Reseting BIOS defaults should re enable it if you can not find the setting (in integrated peripherals on a lot of BIOS)
