Ive got a 500gb samsung 3.5 hard drive and have this put in a quickport combo docking station so useing this a temporary external hard drive.

All was well for the past 2 weeks as i was moving files from my pc to the temporary external hard drive it just stopped. The pc wont see the drive for a few seconds then vanish.
The hard drive powers up then shuts down.
If you dont connect it to the usb lead it will power up ok and spin but as soon as you connect it with the usb to the pc the spinning stops and the external Hard Drive shuts down
Ive tried 3 usb leads
Ive tried to use this in my laptop and same thing happens
Ive put other hard drives in the docking station and it works for them.
anyone got any ideas on this?
Is the Hard Drive itself broke?

I put drive into a desktop pc as a second hard drive.
Pc starts too boot up but stays on a black screen.
I then have to take it out and reboot to get the pc to work.
Looks like ive lost all my files.

It looks like that your external hard drive goes bad and needs replacement. Blue screen stays for temporary hardware or software errors but black screen dictates that your hard drive becomes completely dead.
However, You can still recover files from the dead hard drive using any efficient recovery software or data recovery services.

Good Luck!!!

ajms1989, data recovery software will not work on a drive not seen by bios or windows, been there & done it.

Hell ddp,

Thanks for clearing the issue, but I've mentioned about data recovery services too. If the data is not recoverable using software, recovery services stands as a last option to get back data.

have to be very valuable data to be recovered as data recovery places charge $300+ to do that.

Data recovery services required Class 100 clean room & highly efficient equipment to salvage data from the drive. Though, you right the taking services is lot more costly than any recovery software and full recovery of containing data isn't guaranteed even after that huge amount.
