I have an old western digital mybook 500gig external hdd. It worked great since i bought it in late 2007 but now has started to fail or so I think. I have removed it from its external enclosure and plugged it up in my pc by sata cable and power cable. This however does not work as the pc continues to reboot itself over and over and says "windows encountered an error etc etc would you like to start windows normally, safe mode, etc, etc. I took the drive out the pc and put it back in its enclosure but my computer will hang up at the start and not proceed until i remove the hdd via usb or its power supply. Overall the hdd is not working in its enclosure or plugged up internally through sata. I did once plug the hdd up throught usb after windows had booted up and it recognized it and I was able to get some of my data off before it stopped working again. Does anyone know any special recovery methods or any way I can save the data on this drive?
