Ok first off I have had my build running for almost a year. Originally went with XP when I put it together. However as time went buy I bought a WD 1 TB Caviar Black and decided to put Vista Ultimate x64 on it for a test drive. I loved it so much I kept it. In XP the headphones were dead silent when the volume was on but no sound was coming out. However on Vista, there is constantly some feedback or noise(which ever you like to call it). It is similar to the sound of an old dial up modem.

I have am using the on board sound for the ASUS P5N-D, not a sound card. Running these speakers:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16836121014
And my headphones are routed through the headphone jack on the speaker volume knob rather then my case, but the noise is there regardless of which place i hook it up, and the noise only happens in Vista, not XP.

Any suggestions? Drivers should be up to date btw.

Check your input devices, you probably just need to mute the line-in or mic-in port.

@varnell, there is only one driver listed on the ASUS website for the P5N-D.

@Killer, sorry i forgot to mention it, but that was the first thing I thought off. Been there done that and thats not the case sadly.

There is a newer version of the driver on the realtek site, those ASUS drivers are ancient.
