i love my new laptop(first one) because its the perfect balance between buisness and gaming.

I started gaming frequently with it and the laptop would get quite hot. I wasn't really concerned because it was mainly hot near the fan(where hot air is supposed to go) and other area are usually only warm ( except one spot where the cpu or most likely gpu is located, but never as hot as near the fan area).

I do want this laptop to last quite a long time (3+ years).

How long can i game before i should give my computer a break. (also want to note i play with a xbox 360(rumbles) controller+ipod plugged in)

Can i just leave it on or should i put on standby or turn off and for how long?

i usually just close the game and do light web browsing or just leave and keep it on.

Thanks in advance for any help..im a newb at cooling(had a desktop trapped in a cabinet running for a year till it died on me..=[).

it can get pretty hot, especially after playin a game like just cause 2(computer barely passes minimums for game, i actually think gpu is less than minimum)

note:i leave the ATI graphics card on at all times since my laptop has been plugged in and not using battery since i got it.

Actually, i was looking into that just now..My laptop usually sits in one place, but i thought against it since i thought i would be moving it a lot.

just in case im ever without a cooler, how long do u think my laptop could last(how long until its not considered safe to run at?

the laptop will probably do a thermal shutdown especially the cpu till it cools down enough that you can turn it on again.

don't know as depends on conditions such as room temp & how dirty the cpu heatsink fan assembly & vents are. i wouldn't worry about it.

Wow, I might be getting the same model and same specs, I'm just gonna be throwing in a couple more bucks to upgrade to the i5 CPU!

Yeah, get a good laptop cooler. It helps keep your MoBo cool and it should last you a good 3 years.

Once your done with a game, let the laptop sit with the lid close but with the laptop cooler cooling the mobo too. Then turn it off when done.

Lappies can get more hotter then a desktop.

On my desktop, I keep the side door open with a Artic Cooler Freezer 7 attach to my Quadcore CPU and another genetic fan blowing into the desktop. Keeps it cool!
