Hey i had 2 Hard Disks one IDE(seagate 120 gb) and other 500 gb SATA seagate barracuda.....for sum purpose i had to remove 120 gb hd ...so i did...for few days that hd was with my friend...and that time i was running in 500 gb hd which was working smoothly...he gave me back yesterday...i put 120 gb back and rebooted...my bios didnt detect 500 gb hd where as it could detect my 120 gb........I nearly checked sata and power cables 1000 times..when i put the same sata and power cable to my dvd-rw drive dvd-rw was running...when same to 500 gb hd it didnt............
iam afraid of all of my data in that 500 GB hd .........will it go when i call the computer manufacturer to repair.........?????????any simple steps to make it run.........

And BTW When i insert only 500 gb drive and when i insert xp or vista disc (bootable)it says it couldnt recognize HD in my computer....

PLEASE HELP ME......

try a different S-ATA cable or S-ATA port on the motherboard. Does the drive power up? (You should be able to hear if it is, listen closely near it)

does the bios see the sata drive? check in the bios to see if sata is enabled.

Some motherboards have a RAID utility built in the BIOS thats separate from the normal BIOS, this is where you can stripe, mirror etc. Check you mobo manual to see if it has one of these.

When i ever i turn on i can hear some noise near to my hd...looks like the noise of the fan.....i gave it for replacement few days back....no changes in bios or neither in Cable SATA...
