Hi!

Is it possible to have one monitor extending another, and still have the HDTV duplicating the main monitor? It seems it's not officially possible, but are there some software or DVI duplicating cables for this? Like splitting the main display DVI..

Can't figure out why it would be that hard, since there's no extra work for the GPU... unless the video output power isn't enough for 3 devices.

I'm using ATI HD4850, and soon maybe GTX460 (gotta get a new GPU, any other recommendations for a tight budget?)

Thanks!

Agreed I think ultramon has tools to do this.

Don't get a GTX460 they aren't worth it anymore. The HD6850 is faster, uses less power, is more reliable, runs cooler etc for the same price.

AMD Phenom II X6 1100T 4GHz(20 x 200) 1.5v 3000NB 2000HT, Corsair Hydro H110 w/ 4 x 140mm 1500RPM fans Push/Pull, Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD5, 8GB(2 x 4GB) G.Skill RipJaws DDR3-1600 @ 1600MHz CL9 1.55v, Gigabyte GTX760 OC 4GB(1170/1700), Corsair 750HX

Thanks! Gonna try out that UltraMon later today.

About the GPU... is there any other Nvidia GPU I should buy instead of GTX460? Or is ATI the only good choice for me right now? And my pricerange.. My last three GPUs have been ATI and every one of them had some problems with some games.

Edit:
I tried UltraMon, but couldn't find a way to have 3 monitors on in the same time :( Did I just miss something or does my GPU prevent it?

I'm not too sure about your monitor/TV situation as that is an unusual configuration.

Could you tell me what problems you had with ATi cards before? They were more than likely not due to the video card. As of right now Ati's stuff is better in every way. Price, performance, quality, cooling, you name it, Ati is better. Of course this is not always the case but for the past few years it definitely has been.

Well I've had performance problems with ATI cards.. I mostly play non-mainstream games, and in many cases there has been compatibility issues with ATI cards. But I'll think about it, it really does seem that HD6850 has better reviews and the same price.

My monitor/TV situation isn't that complex :)
I use 2 monitors on my desktop (1080p & an old smaller one)
I also have a HDTV in the same room (1080p)
I'd like to watch movies with the TV without disabling the second monitor, as it screws up my workspaces :P But my GPU doesn't seem to allow 3 monitors at once.

I assure you I play nothing but non-mainstream games sometimes and am very sensitive to glitches and compatibility issues(my guilty pleasure is Mount and Blade Warband). Any card related problems you have had are isolated and in the past. Technology has improved in the 2 generations since you got your 4850. Also there havenn't been any real compatibility issues in years and I can pretty much assure you your ATi branded video card was not to blame.

Mostly your deciding factor will be the price/performance ratio which Ati does have beat. In the past I could definitely say you have an advantage going Nvidia for performance alone, but in the last few years ATi has been dominating. Not trying to be biased here I have owned several Nvidia cards and they were great cards.
