I don't know what happened all of the sudden my disk drives don't show up in my computer. My main c: hard drive works and shows up and I have a 500gb hdd hooked up to a sata controller as well as a 1tb hdd connected via the same controller using esata. Both of these hard drives work and I can access them if I just type their letter into windows. i.e. E:/, F:/ THEY WORK and i can access them but they do not show up in my computer. I checked disk management and they are there and show as healthy working. Also my ipod that I connect via usb does not show up either but it also works in itunes and if I type the letter. WHAT IS GOING ON??
which OS? Sure you haven't accidentally hidden them by changing the directory settings? Vista for example will let you hide removable drives, network drives, etc.
I had something simular happen to me which i put down to vmware altering one of my registry keys. my problem was the autoplay when inserting a flash drive would not start.
Anyway if your problem is linked to mine you need to check a different key to the key i did but it is in the same place.
If you open regedit (start-run-regedit in XP, or click run in the start search box in vista, select run and type regedit in Vista)
Navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\policies\Explorer" if you see a DWord key called NoDrives, double click on it. It should be set to "0" (Zero). If it is not, set it to zero, log off and back on again, then see if your drives are now visable.
Be careful not to change anything else accidentally, you can always change setting back if it does not work. If you are really nervous about working in the registry just create a restore point before you do it so you can always restore back.
You could also try a restore point back to when drives did show if you do not want to edit the registry.
ok, i figured it out. i forgot i previously had tweakui on my computer and selected to not use some of the drive letters. this actually didn't make the drives not work, it just kept them hidden. weird. thanks for the help!
