i used to have a pata hdd and now i got a larger sata drive if im only using 1 sata do i need to use raid config.? and how would i clone the pata to the sata so i can just boot up w/o re-installing windows over again

no need to use raid for 1 drive. get "disk wizard" or similar program from your pata hd manufacturer as it will work with your sata hd. i do this all the time on customers' computers as just finished cloning a quantum 40gig ide to a seagate 500gig sata hd.

For the record you never need to use RAID unless you have a specific use for it. For example, I am currently running 3 SATA HDDs in one of my machines without RAID. RAID normally requires two or more of the same size drive, and is used for data backup etc. It's something most people will never need to use.
