I cant seem to get my new modem to work right its the D-link DSL-2540B, it has a modem and a router toghter.

Anyway i cant seem to get it to give me internet. The auto config doesnt work so it makes my pick a ISP type which when i asked my dsl provider they simply told me its Static. This doesnt show a static ip option on the router all i see is.... PPPoA, PPPoE, MER, IPoA and Bridging. also asks for my VPI and VCI settings.

Anyway only 2 option i seen that allows me to put my isp ip/submask/gateway/dns in is MER and IPoA. Ive tryed both and managed to get the internet light to show up but i never get actuall internet access. ive tryed changing many settings and i cant figure it out.

My old modem the default settings always gave me internet and i tryed to login into it but it just wont let me even after resetting it and using its default passwords. So i cant replicate the exact setting my Modem has and my isp company is a local dsl phoen provider that know nothing about networking it seems.

I cant figure out why i cant get internet it shows my connection speeds and it reads the signal perfectly. Anyone with a static ip know what ill need to do.

Here is a online version of my new modems menus... http://www.support.dlink.com/emulators/dsl2540b/vpivci.html

I once got a router/modem combo from my ISP.

Dont forget to ring your ISP and give them your MAC address (underneath the modem it should be on the sticker, if not, it shoudl be in the manual on front or last page). Though you may not have to do this.

I found that my modem/router combo device couldnt handle a lot of information being downloaded at once or something, because whenever I played a game such as Counter strike source on Steam, It would play up and give me lots of trouble. The net would cut out for about 5 minutes afterwards, even for light webiste browsing in firefox etc. It was if the constant downloading and connections to servers in the game was too much for it.

I had to ring them and change my mac address to my old modem which worked perfectly. then I bought a seperate wireless router
